After serving stints in Operation Ivy and Rancid, San Francisco punk veteran Matt Freeman conceived a project of his own in 2000. Originally planned as a musical about the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge called Halfway to Hell Club, Freeman took the songs he had written with Tim Armstrong during the off-season of touring with Rancid and started Devil’s Brigade. Along with Armstrong on guitar, D.J. Bonebrake (of X and the Knitters) played drums on the debut, self-titled album, which was released in the summer of 2010.
